TRAIL TOWARDS LEARNER-CENTERED EDUCATION By Sayarabanu I. Durvesh[1]

Abstract

Education is not limited to training the mind and filling it with information, but involves all aspects intellectual, religious, moral and physical personality of the learner. It is not enough to impart theoretical learning it must be put into practice. True learning affects behaviour and whereby the learner makes practical uses of one’s knowledge. Creativity in teaching is the need of the hour. As teachers of English we need to use creative ways to encourage reluctant learners. Our teaching approaches cannot remain static. Teaching in the modern era is marked by a spirit of change and innovation. Teaching is no more a monologue but a dialogue. With a shift from teacher centric approach to learner centric approach the teachers of English have started altering their teaching methods to meet the needs of the learners by providing them an opportunity to think, interact and present their views. Learning experience should be turned into an enriching process of creative learning through an active interaction between the teacher and the learners. This paper discusses on the significance and implementation of learner-centered education which would make the teaching learning process more innovative and fruitful.
