Abstract
Several academicians and new law maker thinks the need of change of the existing examination pattern in higher education, advocated introduction of the globally accepted Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). Choice Based Credit Systems cafeteria like system in which the traditional teacher oriented education transforms to a student centred education. CBCS have should base the assessment of its student wholly an ‘internal evaluation’’ following the principle, “Those Who Teach Should Evaluate”. Hundred percent internal evaluations of both Continuous Internal Evaluation and End of Semester Examination are adopted. The continuous internal evaluation (CIE) is to be done by the concerned faculty member of the concerned centre. The total performance of a semester is indicated by a Grade Point Average (GPA), Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Performance of a student is in terms of marks, grade points, letter grade and class. If we adopt the CBCS by revamping the traditional method of examination system, we expect the gross enrolment in higher education to increase and knowledge of student to improve. The gross enrolment in higher education is only 12.7 in the age group of 18-23 years in India much lower than that of USA, Canada, China, Japan and several other countries.
