VIRTUAL EDUCATION AND ITS ISSUES By Dr. Uday Singh[1] 

Abstract

Internet is bringing us closer than we ever thought possible to make learning of all kinds, at all levels, any time, any place, any pace—a practical reality for every man, woman, and child. Business and industry have been the largest users of online learning and virtual educational institutions are not far behind. The term virtual Education means an educational organization that offers K-12 courses through Internet or web-based methods.  Thus, virtual universities are the universities or the institutes of higher learning which run educational programmes in virtual modes.

                The available technology makes online learning a possibility and the economics make it feasible. In the past, distance learning required expensive equipment and specialized rooms for students to gather to take courses sent over satellite, microwave, cable and broadcast television.  Today’s multimedia computers and Internet access have brought down the cost and enhanced the opportunities for interactivity. Now many public and private school both in urban and rural areas have some access to the internet. Furthermore, increasing numbers of students have computers and Internet access at home, extending the opportunities for “anytime, anywhere” learning. In India, Though many traditional universities and institutions like Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) and IGNOU are making their presence, in the field.
