SELF DISCLOSURE IN RELATION TO MENTAL HEALTH OF ADOLESCENTS by Dr. Mukhtiar Singh and  Monika

Abstract

Adolescents tend to be very confused during their growing up period regarding physical, mental, emotional development. They go through lot of changes. Besides physical and sexual maturation, they experience movement towards social and economic independence, development of identity, the acquisition of skills needed to carry out adult relationships and roles, and the capacity for abstract reasoning.

While adolescence is a time of tremendous growth and potential, it is also a time of considerable risk during which social contexts exert powerful influences. During this phase of their life, they need to be mentally stable so as to be a better human being for the coming life challenges. The present study was designed to find out relationship between self disclosure and mental health of adolescents studying in Chandigarh. The study was conducted by involving descriptive survey method of research. The results show that there does not exist any significant relationship between self disclosure and mental health of adolescents. There exists significant difference found in self disclosure of females than males. However, there exists no difference in mental health of male and female adolescents.
