CREATIVITY IN SCIENCE EDUCATION: MAJOR CONCERN OF A SCIENCE TEACHER By Dr. Rajib Mukhopadhyay

Abstract

Creativity has a major scope to be investigated in the context of education. Present study has investigated it in the context of science education, in particular. In this study, the construct of creativity has been explained with reference to the view of different eminent psychologists along with the various models of creativity. Different steps of a learner to follow in learning science have also been investigated. The study, in this context has identified a close similarity between the construct of creativity and nature of science learning. In view of this conceptual framework, various roles of a science teacher in designing the instructional strategy, mode of evaluation etc. to nurture creative thinking have been suggested. The study, particularly, has emphasized the necessity of teachers’ knowledge on the nature of science (NOS) for such an effective nurturance in class room and also has identified functions of a teacher education program.
