A STUDY ON LEARNING DISABILITIES AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS By R.Subramanian and Dr. V. Ramakrishnan

Abstract

Secondary education occupies a significant place in the educational reconstruction of a developing country. Ever since educational consciousness developed in India, a great deal of thinking has gone into developing adequate programs of secondary education. In reality, secondary education prepares the child for basic concepts in learning. Most of the Indian children are finding differences in getting global secondary education. So it is secondary education where learning disabilities must be studied to improve the educational set-up in India.

It is determined that a child has a specific learning disability, if  the child does not commensurate with his or her age and ability level in one or more areas like oral expression, listening comprehension, written expression etc. The child has a specific learning disability if there is severe discrepancy between ability and achievement which primarily result due to the following.

(i)   Visual, hearing or motor handicap

(ii)   Mental retardation

(iii)  Emotional disturbance

(iv)  Environmental, Cultural or economic disadvantages
