Abstract
“Environment does not belong to man. Man belongs to the environment.” Environment problems have attracted the attention of a wide cross section of people all over the world during last two decades. People are becoming increasingly conscious of a variety of problems like global warming, ozone layer depletion, acid rain, famines, droughts, flood, and scarcity of fuel, hazardous chemical and radiation. The recent increase in industry and urbanization during the last century has brought extensive environment pollution in the world. The first sign of pollution problems were observed in water pollution. Later solid waste, air, noise, and radioactive pollution began to show their effect on human beings. Environment problems pose a challenge to humanity, which is unprecedented in its scope and complexity. Environment crisis is the greatest crisis of the day. To check the degradation of the environment and make the balance in nature is the most important challenge to human race. An effort has made to appraise the problem in a broader perspective. Persons, individuals, and organizations of various circles of the world should come forward to accept the challenge for the survival of humankind. Men must give up the idea of exploitation of nature. Man has to recognize the importance of life and sanctity of the planet earth.
