Abstract

The main aim of the present investigation was to study computer anxiety among prospective secondary school teachers with respect to gender and academic stream. Computer anxiety is the complex emotional reactions that are evoked in individuals who interpret computers as personally threatening. It is a fear of computers when using it, or fearing the possibility of using a computer. For conducting this study, a sample of 928 prospective secondary school teachers from 38 B.Ed. colleges was selected by adopting stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected from prospective secondary school teachers with the help of Computer Phobia Scale by Dr. S. Rajasekar and Dr. P. Vaiyapuri Raja (2010). Mean, S.D. and t- test was used for analyzing the data. The findings of the study revealed that male prospective secondary school teachers possessed significantly more computer anxiety as compared to female prospective secondary school teachers. Similarly, prospective secondary school teachers of arts stream possessed significantly more computer anxiety as compared to prospective secondary school teachers of science stream. In the end of the paper, implications of the study have been discussed. Keywords: Computer anxiety, Prospective secondary school teachers.
